FAQ | Wood Into Fire Term
Q: I can’t attend live. Can I still enroll?
Yep! All sessions will be recorded and available for a limited time to view and— potentially (depending on a few things)— download.
Q: I want to practice and attend live, but my time zone (or another circumstance) doesn’t allow for me to do so. Is there a tuition amount that fits my situation?
For those who know they can’t make it live due to time zone conflicts or another unavoidable obstacle, Brea is willing to offer you a special tuition rate, which you’ll need to request from her directly. This rate is not posted because we want to encourage everyone to attend live who can. Remember, you can always apply for a partial scholarship award, which gives you the opportunity to name your own exchange amount.
Q: I want to attend live, and to participate freely while in the ceremonial space, but I don’t want to be recorded.
Fully understood and honored. These sessions are ceremonial; to honor the potent real-time vulnerability and opportunity that occurs when we gather in sacred space, if you wish to share your voice within the ceremony, and you prefer not to be recorded, simply state that before speaking and Brea will gladly oblige your request. This way we can all share freely, without any hinderance of the notion of a recording.
Q: I’m a new student, where should I begin?
Here are some ideal options for new students:
Anchor to Fly Ceremonial Qigong | This session is for you if you’re looking for live practice with a group of like-hearted practitioners. It’s for all levels of experience and is the only live Qigong session offered this term.
Pull Down the Sky Ceremonial Gongfu, Session I | This session is for you if you’re interested in entering into the Eagle Claw Turning Style lineage under the Quan Yin Gongfu tradition. It’s for all levels of experience and is the only live Gongfu session offered this term.
Taiji for Quan Yin, Session I | This session is for you if you’re seeking Taiji that is set within a ceremonial container held by the unconditional loving embrace of Quan Yin. It’s for all levels of experience and is the only live Taiji session offered this term.
The Qigong Lesson Film Library via Patreon is always open to new practitioners. You can subscribe to this monthly offering and when you do, you’ll get instant access to the entire archive of over 40 Qigong Lesson Films.
The Iron Quan Yin Alliance | This is Brea’s brand new 1:1 6-month mentorship offering and is the best way to deeply and profoundly cultivate and refine your personal practice as a committed, devotional act utterly supported by the personal attention of a teacher.
Q: I’m want to practice Sword— how do I do this?
If you’re new to this community | This term we’re opening the temple doors to new students and appropriately beginning with fist and palm form. However, Brea is working to create an offering of recorded sessions and this will hopefully be published before the summer. Once you’ve been through those, you’ll be ready to practice with us in the next live Gongfu session.
If you’re a returning student | Our ceremonial Gongfu session this term will be focused on revising forms we’ve learned so far, including the Basic Jian form. Brea also plans to open the space up to requests. If you’re itching to practice sword or ask a specific question, raise your hand and let her know.
Whether you’re new or seasoned | Again, the Iron Quan Yin Alliance is shining at you. This is Brea’s brand new 1:1 6-month mentorship offering and is the best way to deeply and profoundly cultivate and refine your personal practice as a committed, devotional act utterly supported by the personal attention of a teacher.
Q: What if I’m a returning student, but I haven’t trained with Brea in a while? Can I still enroll in both sessions for the full 3-hour Ceremonial Gongfu session and/or the full 3-hr Taiji for Quan Yin session?
Gongfu | No problem! As long as you’ve started your Gongfu practice with Brea, whether online line, via The Threshold recorded Gongfu Lesson Films, or in-person, you are so welcome to enroll. Doesn’t matter how long it’s been. You may feel it if it’s been a while though. ;)
Taiji |While it may be a bit tough on you to follow along past where you’ve learned the form prior to this, you’re welcome to take on the challenge.
A note for both Gongfu and Taiji | Brea will be teaching fairly swiftly, so if learning the form in detail is what you desire, she highly recommends considering the 1:1 Iron Quan Yin Alliance to refine your form.
Q: I read on the registration page that Brea’s internet in Guatemala can be challenging to navigate at times. Can you speak on how this might impact our sessions?
This is one of the most challenging aspects of teaching online for Brea, and she takes it very seriously. So much so, she stopped teaching online for the last four months while the internet took a turn for the worst. After several creative attempts to fix it, we finally got it back on track. It’s better, in some ways; and in other ways not. On the downside, if the town shuts down the power (which definitely happens), that means our session will be cancelled and rescheduled for a different day of the week.
Q: I noticed this term’s curriculum is a series of Saturday 3-hour sessions instead of weekly sessions that build on each practice. Why isn’t Brea teaching any live weekly courses this term?
This term has been specifically designed this way for a few reasons:
To meet the needs of the community | Instead of the closed-enrollment courses we’ve become accustomed to here in this community, we’re making space for new students to step into the practice space. This is a way for practitioners to get acquainted with the different disciplines while at the same time offering returning students a way to get an immersive session in training and ceremony.
To create space | Brea is in the rigorous process of creating a collection of pre-recorded offerings. While she loves meeting with the same group of practitioners each week, she’s sharing her time equally between recordings and live practice.
With a bright flag Brea is waving at you, if you want weekly practice to get your reps up, stay accountable to your regular home practice, and enliven the rewards of discipline in your life. For this, take the plunge into the deep waters of this tradition and really consider the Iron Quan Yin Alliance.
Iron Quan Yin | This is the newly composed 1:1 6-month mentorship and is the best way to deeply and profoundly cultivate and refine your personal practice as a committed, devotional act utterly supported by the personal attention of a teacher.
